What's Mambo? Mambo is similar to Salsa, but emphasis is on the second beat of the music. It is sometimes called Salsa On 2. The beginner class is for those with little to no dance experience. This is the place to start, covering timing, footwork, basic lead/follow skills, and some styling. These classes are taught in a progressive format, building on material from week to week.
The intermediate class is for those who have mastered the material taught in the Beginner session. This will also be a progressive format, building on material from week to week. You will learn more complicated footwork, lead/follow skills, and styling.

DanceInTimeProductions is sponsoring Salsa/Rueda classes on Saturday afternoons. This is the lively Latin group-dance with intricate partnership moves, beautiful group formations and a lot of team spirit as dancers trade partners and dance with everyone! This is Salsa dancing done as a group with a caller calling the moves that everyone executes. Classes are offered at all level---from beginners to advanced. All of the moves can be done in one-on-one Salsa so this training makes people very versatile dancers.
Classes are drop in and they are tons of fun. The cost is $10 and it runs from 11:30 to 1:30. No partner is needed. Beginners/intermediate dancers start at 11:30 and intermediate/advanced dancers are from 12:30 to 1:30. Advanced dancers can join the basic class at no extra charge just for practice. (This is a great way for ladies who are advanced to learn the leads.)
Class is taught by Barb Bernstein and others from DanceInTimeProductions.com. Emile Derek Boyle's 10 Week Salsa/NY Mambo Series at Springfield's Southrun RECenter, 7550 Reservation Drive Springfield, Virginia 703-866-0566, begins Sunday June 24th, 2007. Registration begins May 22nd, and you save $10 when registering within the first 10 days. Cost is $75 for Fairfax county residents, or $85 for out of county students. This Summer there will be 3 levels of classes offered on Sundays at the following times:
Level I Salsa/NY Mambo on-2, 4-5pm (Basics, Turns, partnering, wraps, Latin motion, Cumbia's, hand switches, Hair combs, etc., + Mini lessons in Bachata, ChaCha on-2, Salsa on 1, Cumbia and Merengue.)
Level II Salsa on-1, 5-6pm, (Intermediate Partnering, Sombrero's, Sombrero fakes, Duck turns, Extended Broken left turn combos, Hammerlocks, hand tosses, shines, etc.,)
Level III/IV Salsa on-1, 6-7pm. The focus will be on 360 degree left rotations (Coca-Cola's), COPA's, advanced Hammerlock combinations, multi-spinning drills, touch and go's, reverse turns, styling, Helicoptors, Afro- Cuban body isolations, shines, and magic hand techniques, with reviews of the most critical techniques from the Level III series including Copa's and Cross Body wraps to Cross overs (Ladies) & Step arounds (Guys), and Ladies tunnels.
Summer session runs from June 24th - Aug 26th 2007. Cost for 10 classes is only $75(in county)/$85(out of county resident). 20 student limit. Please wear comfortable clothing. Leather or suede soled shoes are also recommended (but not mandatory).
